Department of Design for Body & Environment

Design for Body & Environment encompasses a broad range of design disciplines: Fashion, Textile & Surface Design, and Jewellery & Objects. The department aims to educate students to become professional practitioners in both design and other forms of creative practice. Our students are encouraged to examine the past and critique the present, and develop ideas that address and challenge industry, social, cultural and political agendas.

Design for Body & Environment combines specific core elements in research, design and technical making, while also operating across a range of design disciplines and methodological approaches and contexts. We encourage our students to experiment and take risks in order to carve out new understandings of design, and make technical innovations within, and across the field of design for body and environment. In challenging the purpose, methods and ambitions of contemporary fashion, textiles, jewellery and objects design practice and research, students identify opportunities and develop their own creative careers.
