We write poetry about that which we want to remember, yet close our eyes to that which
we want to forget.
Sometimes we must also remember the bad in order to do good. I look around and see nothing has changed from when my Grandmother was part of the Dutch Resistance in the fight against racial discrimination.
We must never forget. We must do better.
Black lives matter.
This collection is an ode to my grandparents and their ethos towards life, drawing inspiration from my (Irish) Grandfather's poetry which he wrote as a way to always stay close to his beloved wife when she passed. Romance, innocence and vulnerability are depicted through use of lingerie detailing and transparent fabrics, contrasting this with the harsh bravery of my (Dutch) Grandmother and all the stories she has left behind.
By remembering and learning we enrich that which we don’t want to forget.
