Living by the coast, Lorna has taken inspiration from her lifelong love of sea creatures. The creative spark for her collection comes from spider crabs, specifically the colours and textures of their shells.
Her research led her to discover decorator crabs that decorate themselves to look large and intimidating. Extrapolating this idea to encompass people, she compared the crabs to bikers who wear chains and spikes to appear bigger and tougher. Combining these elements – crab textures and biker aesthetics – has informed her collection.
Primarily using red and silver, she has strived to achieve an irregular spiky, edgy, unisex form in her designs. In this time of Covid-19 she has used 3D printing, papier-mâché etc., to make prototypes of her ideas. The physical pieces will be 3D printed, use chain making, and cast in sterling silver. Each piece is designed to adorn the wearer and help them stand out.
