COILL AN CHAOICH

I’m drawn to the landscapes of True Crime: mountains and forests which carry unspoken eeriness, burying dark, past secrets of death and grief. Irish lyricist Dermot Kennedy speaks of haunting feelings left uncovered, contrasting anguish and hope through music. Artistic imagery portraying hushed forests and "wandering blind” became the soundtrack to my own investigation of these landscapes.
Initial concepts evolved through a year of personal loss, world disruption and disorder. Realities of emotion-crippling loss and the bitter acceptance of death’s absoluteness. An inability to separate the melding of emotions, a cross-contamination of joy and art with fear and paranoia.Fear of the fatality of wasted moments spent “looking back at the ghosts left behind”. Developing as a visual representation of my subconscious: excavating the reality of death, loss and thoughts of “all destined to burn”. The props of true crime; bodybags, forensic photography and PPE, symbolising buried realities
