‘MORE THAN WHAT THE EYE MEETS’
This collection is inspired by the modern female ‘Sapeur’; a bold resilient woman who is “loud, proud and heard”, and the many layers that make Congolese textiles unique.
Through mark making, bold colours and the use of scale, I have created a contemporary Congolese textile inspired collection.
It is designed through screen and digital printing onto both modern fabrics like silk viscos satin and silk and wool georgette, and the traditional cotton poplin.
My collection utilises techniques like pigment illumination, reactive, acid illimitation and devore. Designing this collection was a way for me to reconnect to my culture and my love for it, and to allow women to be able to embrace their heritage in a new modern way.
