My degree collection focuses on Irish women from history who are perhaps not as well-known as their male counterparts. ‘Background Figures’ is a series of 10 brooches, highlighting the lives of Elizabeth O’Farrell, Eva Gore-Booth, Daisy Bates and Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington. The aim of my collection is to bring these women back into focus, tell their stories, start conversations and in turn, give these women more recognition for their accomplishments. I work primarily in metals, using processes such as press-forming, etching and casting. In this collection I have enjoyed mixing these traditional techniques with modern processes such as 3D printing.
