This womenswear collection aims to celebrate femininity by depicting a narrative of my own personal nostalgia for women in my life, which prompts reflection between the present and former identity of women. Research of Victorian clothing derives from photographs of the Victorian family members of my granny Mae. Research from a construction viewpoint comes from a women’s Victorian jacket and Edwardian male trousers.
This collection also utilises vintage lace pieces I collected at various vintage fairs in London and repurposes them as new garments and inspiration for drape and construction.
The concept of belongings left behind is also supported by the use of shape and construction of laser cut pieces based on my grandad's football medals from the 50s repurposed as jewelry.
The feminine decorative elements of Mae's handwriting juxtaposed with functional aspects of the male and female Victorian garments create a balance between masculine and feminine qualities.
