As a youth, development is imperative to growth. Throughout my degree collection I have examined elements of society from the perceptive approach of understanding my own, and the influences of rebellious youth in my society. The concept of defying or rebelling against society has always been fundamental to my design process.
Contesting societal norms and gathering personal research of the youths in my family; and of the past in my area has been key to developing my collection, 'In Ainm An Athar' (Translating directly to 'In The Name of The Father'). The collection focuses on creating a statement of rebellion. By infusing personal elements from my youth, family memorabilia and documents from my area, I have aimed to tell a different story about peaceful Ireland. Through the creation of custom printed material, bonding new fabric compositions and on key finishing details, I have produced a modern traditional menswear collection.
