My work explores the experiences and feelings of people living around the border of Northern Ireland and the Republic, both past and present. It documents the current state of the border, particularly in my locality, and the remnants of a previous time. Hearing stories of the Troubles and the effect it had on people, it considers the fears of current border inhabitants with Brexit looming, and the uncertainty it brings. Will we continue with the peace process, or will we be restricted with watchtowers, border controls, and the threat of violence once more? The intention of my work is to create the sense of divide and unrest that both communities have experienced, divided by beliefs, deep set in the religious ideologies of Northern Ireland and the Republic’s bordering counties. Through my life I have experienced both sides of the predominant religions and observed views and opinions that are potentially harmful.
