‘Beneath the Surface’ is a project centered around navigation, with a lens focused on the city and the ways in which we interact with it. In today’s society, quite often we get wrapped up in our busy lives and the technology that drives them. We rarely stop and consider the world around us, always rushing from point A to point B.
The overall aim of the project is to help the viewer consider the world around them differently, in stages. Firstly, by making them question the way that they engage with their surroundings, looking from the perspectives of the 'Flâneur' and the 'Badaud'. Secondly, by providing information about our interactions with those surroundings through a publication containing a series of interviews, essays and photographic studies. Finally, by prompting the individual to engage with their surroundings in a different manner, with an online platform provided to showcase the viewer’s findings.
