My work considers my visual association with landscape. The impetus for my work is a desire to create a connection between something we see, and our memories from the past. Through landscape painting I explore the different stages of my life; where I am, surrounded by ever-changing scenes.
My take on landscape painting has been heavily influenced by the colour and warmth of places with hot climates, in conjunction with the form and depth of the Irish landscape. The dichotomy of line, form, colour, and texture represents the opposing influences of my visual experiences. Many of the landscapes represent the time I have spent looking up at the horizon, or looking through the window of a car.
Through painting, textile, and sculpture (a recent exploration within my work), I source imagery from my own photographs and line drawings of the surrounding area of Wicklow and South Dublin.
The finished works do not necessarily suggest an Irish landscape, but a surreal dream-like scene and are the outcome of my research and inspiration.
