‘Made with Love’ is a series of knitted artefacts made to bestow on a loved one. When gifting a present to someone, I always think what can I hand make that has sentimentality for the recipient, that they can have as a keepsake that reminds them of me. However, just because a gift is handmade doesn’t necessarily mean the recipient will like it. The “sweater curse” or the “curse of the love sweater” is a term used by knitters to describe the belief that if a knitter gives a hand-knit sweater to a significant other, it will lead to the break up of that relationship. I have made a series of artefacts that explore this idea. My working method links the idea of slow process with the sentimentality of time, energy and thought when making something. By exploring and experimenting with natural dying, using natural sources including vegetables and botanicals to dye old bed sheets, wool, yarns and other scraps of natural materials, I create contrasts in colours and textures.
