The site inspiring these works was experienced through sight, touch, smell, emersion, and stillness. I explored these sense perceptions through photography, video, sketches, painting, small plaster sculpture, and collected pebbles, shells, sand, seaweed and flotsam.
I am fascinated by the coexistence of rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old, daily newly formed trickles through the sand, and the push and pull of the tides that reveal a wonder of pebble beds and rock pools.
Throughout my investigations, I am constantly drawn to reflecting on the solidity and precariousness of life. Beauty and stability are constantly shifting no matter how solid they appear. Nature shows us how the little make the great and the great make the little – deposition of sea life from millennia ago form rock layers which, in turn, erode to rocks and sand. Particles tumble out to sea only to be washed back again.
