My project is based on the absence of our ancient tradition of Irish storytelling in today’s society. I looked into and focused on how much our younger generations are being taught in today’s education system. This project has led me to realise why this tradition has become so buried through a number of reasons:
Globalisation (causing an increase in immigration, emigration, and a heavy influence from more prominent cultures around the world, i.e. USA, Japan).
The British Rule (for over 800 years our land and culture was abused and oppressed. Ultimately, this led to The Famine, killing around 1 million Irish natives, as well as forcing another million to emigrate).
Through my outcomes, I’m aiming to help rejuvenate the interest, understanding and relativity of these old Irish myths and legends, and bring them back into our daily lives, the way it was for thousands of years before.
