“I only went out for a walk, but decided to stay until sundown, for going out was in fact going in” (John Muir).
Seeking to manifest the underlying spiritual and ethereal qualities I sense in nature, I investigate how light is transformed through colour and materiality. My practice is based on experimentation, with key decisions being made intuitively.
This body of work explores the tonal spectrum of green and pink through a diverse range of media. Seeking the intangible, ethereal essence of my subject, I study how light responds to each material through reflections, illumination and projection. The scale of the works and the underlying spiritual tones challenges the viewer’s transformation of perception and their emotional response whether consciously or unconsciously.
By illuminating the works in a dark room they become windows into which the viewer can reflect inwards. The installation suggests a space of joy and contemplation in a time of great uncertainty and change.
