The Return

This work began when I moved into my student accommodation in September 2019. There is a full-length mirror across from my bed. If only I knew that something so simple would be so violating. I took one mirror selfie and before I knew it, I had a collection of mirror selfies. I was taken on a journey of the everchanging relationship I have with my body. This took the form of the selfies and poetry. These poems were recorded on a cassette recorder and played in the installation I created in my parents’ closet. I got five prints made and they took over the space at a large scale. I hope this space I have created is immersive and consuming—that it acts as a look into my mind and the evolution of this relationship between my mind and body. Mirrors follow us and I am not alone on this.
