‘Holiday Home’ explores the idea of both the unknown and the curiosities of childhood. I recall as a child my father would often disappear into our garden shed for hours, and the mystique behind this shed, or as it seemed – forbidden place – always interested me. It was his space, and rarely would anyone else be allowed to venture down there. After my mother passed, we moved to my grandparents’ old house. The garden shed there, although it had no connections with our former home, seemed to pick up the same meanings and importance to my father as his previous hiding place. While these images are about nostalgia and capturing the unknown and forbidden, they also explore how most familiar places or objects can become cabinets of curiosities to interrogate and examine, something which directly influences my lessons as an educator.
