Concerned with concepts of home and ownership, ‘Being Home’ is intended to be displayed as an immersive installation in which to spend time, slow down and savour small moments. It explores how to cultivate a sense of home in a world where this can often prove difficult. Using a recently felled forest as its backdrop and employing punctuated cuts to black, the video piece seeks to subtly question the spaces we feel at home in and our sense of control over them, and to highlight the beauty in the imperfect and seemingly insignificant.
O’Dowd’s practice is tied to themes of transition and liminality. The fascination with the concept of home and what it can mean, has never seemed so appropriate.
