2nd Year Printed Travel Patches

This project engaged 2nd year students to design, print and construct a fabric travel patch for a location of their choosing. Students began by exploring space and shape in making foam stamps to fill a giant passport book. In choosing locations there was no restrictions, they could be physical or conceptual, and students then researched and presented these locations. The presentations were informal, allowing students to ask each other questions. This allowed students to share their knowledge and experiences and help each other see potential avenues of exploration they could pursue in their designs from the questions their peers asked about their research. They created paper stencils to print onto fabric which they then sewed onto felt backing with a variety of stitching techniques. The project culminated with students placing their patches on a large world map, further emphasising the sense of community and shared experience of the project.
