Tactility

‘Tactility’ explores the potentials of sensory experience in ceramics. It looks at touch and its values in creating direct connections between people and the world around them. The work considers how perceiving an object through touch provides a more detailed and durable memory of the object. Thus, you are encouraged to hold the art in exploration of the haptic sense. The hand-built objects embody design principles, creating a naturally comfortable form that can be held in the hands. Tactile awareness lies in the manipulation of each object’s shape and form. Each form is different, derived from the clay’s response to the artist's touch and experienced differently; when the object is held by someone else. The aim is to convey the importance of touch in understanding the world around us, how we perceive things and in evolving a sense of connection.
