The work is reflective of moments and insights brought about by questioning both my relationship with devices and the larger societal dynamic of how we interact with and connect through technology. The absence of physical presence in society as a result of the ever-increasing dissemination of imagery are studied in these fragmented scenes of figuration. The work depicts a series of performative and gestural displays showcased upon an array of found materials which in turn is contrasted against refined aspects and framing, resulting in minimal compositions.
The paintings take form collectively, as I would always work on multiple pieces simultaneously; each work dictating the next - how they react and engage with one another is essential. The work of Cy Twombly, his performative approach in line making, which results in a dance of perpetual marks upon the canvas, inspire the energetic fluidity of application.
The works for me are outputs of contemplation, directions and journeys - the decision making and feelings based around these internal conversations.
